WOOD SCREWS & FOUNDS
Everyday artefacts enabled by simple actions such as perforating, folding, splitting,…
Diane Steverlynck and Maud Vande Veire have continued to work on “Wood Screws & Frills” pieces previously designed by them to fit into the OpenStructures system. They have now added, in a playful way, materials we encounter in everyday life. With a minimum of interventions, these materials are «bent» into new objects. Using what is available as a guiding principle, it becomes possible to connect the wood screws with existing objects or space elements. According to use, the objects can be shaped in different ways, combine diverse elements and vary in size.

STACKS
Second-hand crockery parts are connected to the wood screws, becoming practical containers with sculptural qualities.
These objects can be hung, placed, or squeezed onto existing shelves or furniture parts.
TWISTS
A screw and twisted rope share visual and physical analogies. Both have a spiral-like structure and are made to keep things together. Like the screw which is screwed and unscrewed, the twisted rope can tighten or loosen its twist. In “Twists”, we use this tightening/loosening principle to form objects ranging from masks to suspension systems.
HEDGES
“Hedge” is a series of baskets and containers conceived with a combination of wood screws and grid fence.
With a minimal amount of connecting points, the folded fence material is screwed together into different types of containers.
